Internationally celebrated for her orchestral works that are equally expansive and intimate, Maggie Dave collaborator Nina Shekhar describes her personal connection to the instrumental soundscape of "Old You":

"All of those same feelings of nostalgia are things that I very much relate to and love to explore in my own work. It made it really fun and easier for me to figure out how I wanted to remix and take risks, because I felt like I already was very connected emotionally with the song. For example, I kept manipulating the guitarists' chords and layering them until they sounded like a pinball machine. I was thinking of this nostalgia element, this kind of arcade, and this childhood relationship between arcades and games and things like that. I think even the way I broke apart the song in picking this one section, this one little clip, plays on this sort of manipulation thing and how that affects our memory. I loved the original version, how that same nostalgia plays out in a really soulful way that I really admired. I think in mine, I was trying to make it an almost gritty...slightly eerie, angry kind of nostalgia. This idea of sampling is something that I've been loving exploring just in general with other remixes I've done, like deconstructing a piece or somebody else's work and then making into something new. I've been really trying to learn about and figure out how can that process of sampling really represent this layering of identities."
